ILLUSTRATIONS & PROJECTS
Media: Digital Painting A fun whimsical exploration into the creation of Earth. The star/sun is interpreted as a quilting star - traditionally a women's craft, quilts remind me of security, invitation, and warmth.
Digital Painting Graduation is a coming of age ritual for many; full of promise and hope for the future. However, there are those who will be "graduating," into a more sinister world. A world where the perception of threat cannot be over thrown by their accomplishments. A world where dreams and aspirations can be extinguished by an unfortunate interaction with the wrong type of person or police.
Digital Painting This is a reality for many people of color in our society, especially black men. Ask any black man and they will have a story of having been harassed on at least one occasion by the police - regardless of occupation, achievements, clothing or demeanor. "Not all cops are bad," is not enough. We must do something so that a police encounter does not turn into a gamble for one's life.
Watercolor on Paper The woman who commissioned this piece wanted something to commemorate her journey of motherhood. Shortly before expecting her second child, she had experienced a miscarriage. This painting symbolizes the joy of her firstborn, the hope of her second born (a rainbow baby), and celebrates the moments of the unborn baby she never met, but will never forget.
